Foreign Object Debris Detection System (FODDS)
Showcased in DGCA56 Aviation Exhibition, Nepal

Hitachi Kokusai Electric showcased its latest technical information of FODDS (Foreign Object Debris Detection System) at the 56th Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation, Asia-Pacific Region, Kathmandu. In this exhibition, a miniature model of the FODDS based on an undergoing field trial at the Kuala Lumpur KLIA airport was exhibited.

The 56th Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation, Asia-Pacific Region was hosted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal at the Soaltee Crowne Plaza Hotel, Kathmandu, Nepal. The theme of the 56th conference is “Harmonizing Efforts to Meet the Capacity Constraints”. A total of 332 participants from 34 States and 14 International Organizations attended the conference. The conference was officiated by the Right Honorable Prime Minister of Nepal KP Sharma Oli. The meeting focused on the issues of air navigation and safety, along with the economic development of aviation through cooperation between countries in the Asia Pacific region. Excitement over the new technology has attracted a considerable number of visitors who are eager to learn more on the technical and economic aspects of the system.

Delegates from Malaysia were led by Mr. Ahmad Nizar Zolfakar, the CEO of Civil Aviation Authority Malaysia (CAAM). The rest of Malaysian delegation members were Prof Dr. Sevia M Idrus, Deputy Dean FE UTM, Mr. Mahyudin Sajuri, Deputy Director CAAM, Mrs. Raslina Yahya, Senior Assistant Director CAAM, Mr. Zubir Meerah, Senior Manager MAHB, Captain Masri Mahmud, ExxonMobil, and Captain Adnan Harbi, Sylmax HCS. Malaysia had contributed an information paper in the meeting which was largely on the FODDS field trial conducted at KLIA. It was written by UTM and Malaysia Airports with the help of Japanese collaborators, NICT and Hitachi Kokusai Electric.
