Procedures to edit our CSR Report

The basic concept of our CSR as well as material issues to be disclosed as the content of CSR Report are explained under the titles “What Hitachi Kokusai Electric Considers Important” at page 3, “Our Communication Tools,” and “Editorial Policy” at page 4 of the Hitachi Kokusai Electric Group CSR Report. To supplement these, followings are a brief description of the procedures to edit our CSR Reports and an explanation on our policy with regard to the disclosure of our CSR Information.

The process to define material aspects of our CSR disclosure

The Company has identified material aspects which are stipulated in GRI Guidelines through following procedures.

First, we have selected the aspects which substantively influence the assessments and decisions of stake holders referring to the assessment measures adopted by EICC, SASB, and DJSI, under guidance and suggestions of an outside consultant.
(2)
Then, we further evaluate those aspects in terms of significance of economic, environmental and social impacts by our business operation. Thereby we identified the following three aspects as the most significant ones.

The procedure to edit CSR Reports

Steps to Produce CSR Reports

The CSR Report is produced through following steps:

(a)
Contents and the structure of the report are studied, discussed, and planned by the editors meeting, which consists of representatives from each business division, main supporting divisions, and relevant group companies.
(b)
General Manager of Legal & CSR Division and the responsible executive officer instruct the production.
(c)
Galley proofs are reviewed by following points:
(1) All the relevant divisions and the responsible executive officers receive a galley proof and review it.
(2) Consistency tests of product description are implemented by departments in charge of corporate communication, legal, environment, intellectual property, the relevant business division, and the relevant quality assurance. Consistence with GRI Guideline and other standards and references are tested simultaneously.
(3) Appropriateness as the publication is tested by intellectual property department and export control department.
(4) President and executive officer reviews and approve the final proof.
(5) Japanese edition is publicized by internet in June.
(d)
Translation into English and GRI Content Index are produced and publicized in September.

Assurance

The CSR Report is produced and reviewed by relevant divisions with clear responsibility assignments in accordance with the internally established procedures. We consider, therefore, the external assurance particularly for non-financial disclosure of the Company is not necessary at this moment. From the fiscal year 2016 on, in the meantime, the data of greenhouse gas emissions are reported to CDP. A part of the data reported in the previous fiscal year are examined by Japan Quality Assurance Organization, and its assurance report received in November is attached to the annual report to CDP, of which we reconfirm the adoption in the feedback report from CDP.

Evaluation by entities out of the Company

(a)
We positively response to the inquiry, interview, and other form of research by universities, research institutes, academic laboratories, SRIs, consultants, and media, hold dialogues, listen to their suggestions, and refer to them for reviewing our CSR measures.
(b)
In June, 2017, our stock has been selected as a constituent of the FTSE4Good Index series, the socially responsible investment index series compiled by FTSE Russell, part of London Stock Exchange Group.
(c)
As of July 3, 2017, our stock is a constituent of Morningstar Socially Responsible Investment Index.
(d)
In March, 2017, our Company has been ranked as 186th on the CSR Company Ranking published by Toyo Keizai Inc.
